I know I have quite a few banana bread recipes up on this site of mine, but to be honest I have a lot of bananas that end up going bad at my house.

I know this sounds crazy, but I actually HATE bananas; raw ones, that is. I never eat them, in fact I run in the opposite direction of anyone who is eating one. By the way, have you ever heard someone eat a banana? It could be the most disgusting sound in the world….go ahead, listen next time someone is mowing down on one of those things and tell me that slight mushy smack sound isn’t the WORST.

Okay, so why do I have a plethora of tropical death snacks on my counter? One word: smoothies. The ONLY way I will eat bananas is if it’s in a smoothie and or if it’s baked into banana bread. Often times I am too lazy to peel and wrap them for the freezer and days later I look over to see I have brown mushy bananas on my counter. KILL ME NOW! At that point it’s time to make some banana bread or something of that sort. Today, it’s DONUTS! Who the hell doesn’t enjoy a good donut from time to time? After much trial and error I think I mastered the ratio of flour to banana and what I was left with was culinary perfection. (I love it when that happens)

I like to bake with little to no refined sugar, most of the time you really don’t need cane sugar at all. In this recipe I used maple syrup but you could use any type of sweetener you like.

By themselves these healthy donuts are relatively guilt free, but it IS the holidays, so an extra drizzle of dark chocolate on top is a must for me….Jesus says it’s okay, it’s his birthday week.

These were a HUGE hit with all my friends and family. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Gluten Free Dairy Free Baked Banana Bread Donuts

(makes 16 donuts)
  • 2 cups AP Gluten Free Flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 bananas, mashed well
  • 1/2 coconut oil, melted
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • OPTION: 1/2 CUP MELTED DARK CHOCOLATE CHIPS FOR DRIZZLE
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a donut pan with an all-natural cooking spray, even if it’s a nonstick pan.
  2. Mix all of the dry donut ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix all of the wet donut ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and stir to combine.
  3. Transfer batter to a baggie with one corner cut off, and squeeze into the shape of a donut on the donut pan.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes. (note: these will rise quiet a bit, but will deflate after cooling.)
  5. When donuts have cooled for approximately 10 minutes, transfer them to wire cooling rack. Drizzle a bit of dark chocolate on top if you want!
